The "What If" Packing List for Preschool Excursions
Good preparation means thinking about the unexpected. This list complements your standard packing list with items that can save the day in "what if" scenarios.
What if...
- ...it suddenly starts to rain?
- ☐ A few lightweight emergency rain ponchos in the group backpack.
- ...shoes get completely soaked?
- ☐ Enough spare socks for all children.
- ☐ A few plastic bags to use as a waterproof layer between wet boots and dry socks.
- ...it gets unexpectedly cold?
- ☐ One or two lightweight fleece blankets to share.
- ☐ An emergency foil blanket from the first-aid kit (provides excellent insulation).
- ...a child gets a scrape or a splinter?
- ☐ A well-stocked first-aid kit with band-aids, antiseptic spray, tweezers, and blister plasters.
- ...hands are sticky or dirty and there's no water nearby?
- ☐ A large pack of wet wipes and hand sanitizer.
- ...a child suddenly gets tired and doesn't want to walk anymore?
- ☐ A small, high-energy snack (dextrose tablet, granola bar) can work wonders.
Thinking about the unexpected gives you the security and composure to handle any situation.
