How are "Weather Costs" Calculated?
The "Weather Costs" feature provides a simplified simulation to give you a general idea of how the daily weather might impact your household energy costs. Please note that this is an estimate and not an exact prediction of your utility bill.
The Calculation Model
Our model is based on a few key factors:
- Base Cost: We start with a fixed daily base cost (e.g., €1.50). This represents the average electricity usage for non-weather-dependent appliances like refrigerators, routers, and lights.
- Heating Cost: An additional cost is calculated when the forecast temperature drops below 15°C (59°F). The colder it gets, the higher the simulated cost for heating your home.
- Cooling Cost: An additional cost is added when the forecast temperature rises above 22°C (72°F). The hotter it gets, the higher the simulated cost for air conditioning or fans.
Purpose of the Feature
The main goal of this feature is to raise awareness about the connection between weather and energy consumption. By providing simple, actionable tips alongside the cost estimate, we hope to encourage energy-saving habits that are good for both your wallet and the environment.
