Berlin's October Moods: From Golden Sunshine to the Famous 'Berlin Cloud'

October in Berlin is a month of contrasts. It can give you days so golden and warm they're called 'Altweibersommer' (Indian Summer), only to cover the city with a grey, cool blanket the next day. This unpredictability is typical for autumn in Berlin and requires a flexible wardrobe and planning.

The Two Faces of October

Sunny Days: On clear October days, the air is crisp and the sun still has enough power for a warm afternoon. The low-lying sun bathes the colourful leaves in the Tiergarten in a magical, golden light. These are the perfect days for long walks or a visit to an outdoor café.

The 'Berlin Cloud': This term describes the often uniform grey, overcast sky that can persist for days. It's not necessarily rainy, but the sun is hardly visible. This often comes with a cool wind. On these days, Berlin unfolds its cozy charm – perfect for a museum visit or a hot tea.

Clothing Tip

The layering principle is your best friend. Wear multiple layers: a t-shirt, a sweater, and a windproof jacket. This way, you can easily adapt whether the sun comes out or a cool breeze picks up. A scarf is also an indispensable accessory.
