Kids love to be outside—no matter the weather. To ensure that fun isn't spoiled by being cold or wet, the right clothing is crucial. Children cool down and overheat more easily than adults, so special attention is needed.
The best method for children is the layering principle (Zwiebelprinzip). It allows for flexible adaptation to changing temperatures and activity levels.
This way, you can remove a layer when your child gets sweaty from playing and put it back on when they sit still for a break.
For Rain ("Matschwetter"):
This is the domain of the classic mud pants (Matschhose) and rain jacket (Matschjacke) (often available as a set). Make sure it is truly waterproof (hydrostatic head of at least 3,000 mm). Rubber boots are indispensable. Tip: Choose lined boots for the colder season or have them wear thick wool socks.
For Snow and Cold:
A good snowsuit (one-piece or two-piece) is the best choice. It should be waterproof, windproof, and well-insulated. Look for cuffs on the sleeves and legs to keep snow out. Waterproof winter boots with good tread are a must. Most important, however, are the accessories: a warm hat that covers the ears, a neck gaiter (safer than long scarves), and waterproof gloves. Always pack a second, dry pair of gloves!
Children's skin is particularly sensitive to UV radiation.
With the right gear, any weather becomes adventure weather. It not only promotes your child's health and immune system but also creates unforgettable childhood memories of jumping in puddles and building snowmen.
