Safety First: The Special Weather Checklist for Preschool Groups
The safety of the children is the top priority. This checklist helps you to keep all weather-related risks in mind when planning excursions.
Before the Trip
- ☐ Check the detailed weather forecast (hourly, UV, wind) the day before and on the morning of the trip.
- ☐ Inform parents about the planned activity and the necessary clothing.
- ☐ Have a Plan B for bad weather (alternative destination or program).
- ☐ Pack the emergency contact list for all children and a first-aid kit.
Sun Protection
- ☐ All children are wearing sunscreen (SPF 50+).
- ☐ All children are wearing a wide-brimmed sun hat with neck protection.
- ☐ Sufficient drinking water is available and offered regularly.
- ☐ The main location offers enough shade, especially during midday.
Rain and Cold Protection
- ☐ All children are wearing waterproof shoes and weatherproof outerwear (rain pants/jacket).
- ☐ Spare socks and gloves are in the group backpack.
- ☐ In the cold: Hats and scarves are mandatory.
- ☐ A thermos with warm, unsweetened tea is packed.
Safety in Wind and Storms
- ☐ Route checked: Are we avoiding parks with old trees or open fields today?
- ☐ In case of a thunderstorm warning: Cancel the trip or choose a safe indoor destination. The 30-30 rule is known.
